# Chronoverse > Chronoverse is a self-hosted distributed scheduler and orchestrator for teams running interval-triggered or manual HEARTBEAT and Docker CONTAINER workflows, built with Go HTTP/gRPC services, Kafka workers, PostgreSQL, Redis, ClickHouse, Meilisearch, Docker, React/Next.js, and OpenTelemetry. Chronoverse expects at-least-once delivery and partial failures. It relies on idempotency keys, transactional outbox publication, workflow generations, deterministic event IDs, stale-event guards, durable leases, and partition-aware Kafka commits rather than globally exactly-once execution. The HTTP API uses cookie sessions and CSRF validation; retry-prone workflow mutations require an `Idempotency-Key`. HEARTBEAT workflows have no logs. Retention-disabled reads return `412 Precondition Failed`, while SSE uses error frames after streaming starts. Container ownership pairs the container ID with its assigned runtime node and persisted Docker endpoint; workers preserve this locality for execution, logs, cleanup, and recovery. Canonical documentation sources are MDX files in `static/content/docs` and the OpenAPI document in `static/content/openapi.yaml`. They are published at https://hitesh22rana.github.io/chronoverse/ from https://github.com/hitesh22rana/chronoverse. ## Onboarding - [Introduction](./docs/introduction/): Supported HEARTBEAT and CONTAINER workloads, platform capabilities, runtime shape, and failure-recovery guarantees. - [Quickstart](./docs/quickstart/): Docker Compose prerequisites, startup commands, readiness checks, local endpoints, and shutdown. - [Installation](./docs/installation/): Docker runtime requirements, Go and Node developer toolchains, generated dependencies, and production preparation. - [Your first workflow](./docs/getting-started/first-workflow/): Session authentication, container workflow creation, build polling, manual execution, and log inspection. ## Architecture - [Workflows](./docs/concepts/workflows/): Definitions, generations, builds, and lifecycle rules. - [Jobs](./docs/concepts/jobs/): Scheduled execution attempts and state transitions. - [Architecture](./docs/engineering/architecture/): HTTP and gRPC domain boundaries, Kafka workers, persistence systems, runtime-node ownership, and Docker execution locality. - [Replay safety](./docs/engineering/replay-safety/): Idempotency, outbox publication, stale-event rejection, deterministic side effects, durable leases, and ordered Kafka commits. - [Transactional outbox](./docs/engineering/transactional-outbox/): Atomic state changes and durable event publication. - [Durable job leases](./docs/engineering/job-leases/): Execution ownership, renewal, and recovery. - [Kafka processing](./docs/engineering/kafka-processing/): Partition ordering, retries, and commit policy. - [Logging and search pipeline](./docs/engineering/logging-search-pipeline/): Live Redis/SSE output and replay-safe retained-log ingestion through Kafka, ClickHouse, and Meilisearch. ## Getting Started - [Log streaming and search](./docs/features/log-streaming/): SSE, retained logs, highlights, filters, and downloads. - [API overview](./docs/api/overview/): Public API base paths, cookie sessions, JSON behavior, idempotent mutations, and the OpenAPI reference. - [CSRF and idempotency](./docs/api/request-safety/): CSRF checks, Idempotency-Key rules, atomic mutation records, and conflict behavior for retrying clients. - [Endpoint reference](./docs/api/reference/): OpenAPI-generated public HTTP endpoint reference. - [Kubernetes](./docs/deployment/kubernetes/): Local and production Kustomize overlays, prerequisites, secrets, storage, scaling, runtime agents, and validation commands. - [Configuration reference](./docs/deployment/configuration/): Environment variables by service and worker. - [Certificates and security](./docs/deployment/security/): Certificate bootstrap, infrastructure TLS, gRPC authorization, browser protections, Docker access, and production secrets. ## Deep Dive - [Observability](./docs/operations/observability/): OpenTelemetry traces, metrics, and structured logs, including PromQL examples and an investigation sequence. - [Retries and recovery](./docs/operations/recovery/): Outbox retries, lease recovery, and stale event handling. ## Optional - [Repository layout](./docs/contributing/repository-layout/): Where runtime, deployment, contracts, frontends, and documentation live. - [Development workflow](./docs/contributing/development/): Generate, lint, test, build, validate deployment, and release changes.
